In order to offer Canadian International Diploma ® (CID) program of education, schools must complete an authorization process. Once they have been authorized, they are known as CWS World Schools. This section of our website explain how to become an CWS World Schools, including the fees and costs involved.

How to become a CWS World Schools

Schools interested in implementing Canadian International Diploma ® (CID)
must successfully complete an authorization process.

Why is there an authorization process?

The CWS World Schools is proud of its commitment to provide, challenging and unique program of education to schools. Authorization process will help CWS Canada to identify eligible schools to continue the process to become partner with CWS Canada. As a result of the process, parents and students can be confident that each CWS World Schools, no matter where it is located, is held to the same high standard.

General time line for the process

The authorization process varies by school and CWS program, but typically takes between two and three months to complete the process.

Consideration phase

Once a school decides to explore the authorization process, its leadership completes a School information form to inform the CWS of its interest and to request additional information. Once the CWS has confirmed receipt of the School information form, school owner or principal must identify the person who will become the coordinator of CWS program. Coordinator has to be comfortable to communicate in English. Below, you’ll see an outline of the process.

Fees and services

Depending on their status with the CWS and number of students and locations, schools pay different fees. There are two types of fees for the CWS World Schools.

  • Authorized schools: authorized CWS World Schools pay annual fees as a member of the CWS school.  The annual membership fee includes services that are required to operate as a CWS school, described herein.
  • CWS Student Fee: CWS World Schools pay flat yearly student fee to CWS Canada per school year.

What services do schools receive?

In return for their fees, authorized CWS World Schools receive a number of services. These include:

  • secure access to the CWS’s online curriculum centre for school
  • secure access to the CWS’s online Course of Study and all of the lesson plans and evaluation for every teacher at school
  • ongoing program evaluation and inspection process to improve the quality of teaching and school environment
  • free use of the CWS World Schools name and logo, indicating the school’s unique international status and connection with the Canadian World Schools
  • CWS World Schools also receive access to the CWS information system which is necessary for performing certain administrative tasks
  • Every student at CWS World Schools will receive Mid-Term and Final Report Card with complete Learning Skills and statistics with official government trade mark and class achievements and for the graduate students from High School CWS will offer official Canadian High School Diploma.
  • CWS World Schools students will receive Canadian education number around the world and will have a complete student record from Kindergarten to grade twelve (12) in CWS Headquarter in Canada which will be inspected by the CWS inspectors regularly. All of the original student exams will be stored for 2 years.  All student marks will be transmitted to CWS headquarter database and hard copies will be keep for 55 years in Canada.

CWS Professional Development

98960112redddA key part of authorization process for becoming a CWS World Schools is, professional development. CWS Canada makes sure that CWS World Schools educators have the expertise to deliver the CWS programs. CWS professional development departments creates ongoing educational training and seminars for CWS World Schools teachers and principals. All of the educators must attend professional development workshops as part of the CWS authorization process.

Continued Professional Development

Teacher training and development shouldn’t end with the requirements for CWS authorization process. The continuous professional development of CWS teachers is a mandatory requirement that helps ensure the integrity of one of the world’s most forward-thinking educational frameworks. The CWS Canada encourages CWS World Schools to make use of the many CWS professional development opportunities that are offered to help teachers stay on track.

 How can schools participate in professional development?

Schools can participate in professional development from the phase six of authorization process of their involvement with the CWS. Introductory professional development workshops are provided to help schools start planning the continuous training of their teachers.
